Despite living almost two metres below sea-level, Dutch rider Puck Pieterse claimed gold in devastating fashion in the 2024 UCI XCO World Championships, held at the high-altitude ski resort of Pal Arinsal in Andorra, Spain.
Carrying Puck to victory was Canyon's Lux World Cup CFR, a bike created with the sole goal of winning mountain bike races. At 1535g, the Lux World Cup CFR has one of the lightest full-suspension MTB frames on the market, meaning it climbs like a dream, yet its geometry and shock tuning allows it to rip descents with confidence-inspiring control, as Puck demonstrated on the demanding 4 km circuit.
Puck rode Canyon's Lux World Cup CFR Team Fenix-Deceuninck edition which comes with Fox 32 Step Cast forks and Float DPS rear shock, complete with Canyon's CP0008 one-piece carbon XC-Cockpit, Shimano XTR 12-speed drivetrain and personalized custom-edition Maxxis tyres.
The Lux World Cup CFR is part of Canyon's elite level CFR canon. CFR, short for Canyon Factory Racing, is a product line born from cutting-edge research and development, utilising the finest materials and highest quality production methods, all in collaboration with industry experts, like Puck's Fenix-Deceuninck team, and of course from athletes like Puck herself. Whilst bikes across the CFR line are made with the express goal of carrying riders to victory, they are also available for every customer who is inspired by Canyon athletes and their winning performances.
Puck powered her Lux World Cup CFR to the finish line in Andorra almost 1 minute ahead of her nearest rival, fellow Dutch rider Anne Terpstra, after going hard from the gun and distancing most of the field by the halfway point. When South Africa's Candice Lill slid on the penultimate lap, Puck was able to solo to victory, savouring the first-ever women’s mountain biking gold for the Netherlands.
Victory in Andorra caps a remarkable few weeks for Puck, who rode the women's Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift during August. A stunning mountain-top victory on Stage 4 signified her world class talent and the overall Youth Classification highlighted the threat she poses whether she's competing in Road, Mountain Bike or Cyclocross races.
