UPDATED CANYON AEROAD CFR BREAKS SUB-200 WATT BARRIER

Under TOUR Magazine’s testing conditions the updated Canyon Aeroad CFR frame and cockpit hit 198 watts in the wind tunnel, a stunning achievement for a road racing bike - and it's dropping just in time for the Tour de France.

Embargoed until 11:00 CEST, Thursday 25 June 2026: After its release in 2024 and its status as one of the fastest bikes in the pro peloton - proven time and time again by the likes of Alpecin-Premier Tech’s Matthieu van der Poel and Jasper Philipsen, CANYON//SRAM’s Zoe Bäckstedt, and Movistar’s Iván Romeo and Cat Ferguson – an upgrade to the Aeroad CFR’s frame and specifications reconfirms the Aeroad's status as the peloton's fastest, and now gives riders access to Canyon’s previously pro-only set-up.

Canyon's new CP0053 RACE cockpit turns the Aeroad into a no-compromise race bike, redefining weight and aerodynamic benchmarks for a superior riding experience - with a 'LTD' version that has just achieved a benchmark 198-watts result in the wind tunnel, making it unequivocally the fastest bike in the Tour de France.

Beyond the cockpit, a new UDH interface makes the Aeroad future-proofed for the next generations of drivetrain technology, additional seatposts and wheelsets allow for greater customizations, and new drops enhance control and handling in high-speed racing scenarios.

CP0053: Proven aero advantages

Compared to the Aeroad’s CP0048 PACE Bar, the CP0053 RACE Bar offers:

  • greater tortional stiffness for improved sprinting power transfer
  • a 120-g weight saving for improved climbing ability and acceleration
  • and a 2-watt saving of aerodynamic drag in the wind tunnel
  • or up to 25-watts in real world riding conditions (achieved by minimising the frontal surface area of the rider)

TOUR Magazine's independent wind tunnel test* has long been seen as an industry benchmark for measuring the aerodynamic efficiency of road bikes. By switching out the Canyon Aeroad’s CP0048 PACE Bar, with its gear groove and performance adaptive cockpit ecosystem, to a CP0053 one-piece, V-shaped RACE Bar, not only can the bike itself cheat the wind more effectively, its rider can also achieve a more aerodynamic tuck position while still having control on fast descents. This comes thanks to the RACE Bar’s 14° degrees of flare in the drops, 10 mm more effective reach and 20 mm lower effective stack height.

The bike's proven watt saving - which recorded 198 W of drag in TOUR Magazine's wind tunnel test - will surely be a boost of confidence to performance-obsessed riders everywhere, not least the pro teams using the Aeroad’s CP0053 race cockpit in this year’s Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes.

Options, options

The Canyon RACE Bar is available on the Aeroad through the brand’s MyCanyon programme as a customization upgrade, coming in two widths (350 and 375 mm) and seven lengths, and with two carbon computer mounts included as standard.

The CP0053 RACE Bar will also be available as an aftermarket option offering backwards compatibility for all bikes which are equipped with the CP0048 PACE Bar including the latest generation Aeroad CFR/CF SLX, Endurace CFR/CF SLX and Ultimate CFR/CF SLX models.

New Universal Derailleur Hangar

Beyond the RACE Bar, the Aeroad now has a new standardized interface for rear derailleurs at the rear drive side dropout. This makes the frame UDH (universal derailleur hanger) compatible which means it's easier to find replacement hangers to keep your shifting performance crisp and sharp.

Additional MyCanyon upgrade options on the Aeroad CFR and CF SLX

With the MyCanyon customization program, additional seatposts and wheelsets can be configured for the new Aeroad, allowing customers to tailor the bike even better to their needs.

MyCanyon seatpost options include the default SP105 Aero Seatpost with 10 mm of setback (weight 146 g), the SP106 Aero Zero Setback Seatpost with 0 mm setback (weight: 137g) or the SP0093 VCLS Aero Comfort Seatpost with a cut-out design and 10 mm set back (weight: 160g).

New MyCanyon wheel options are now available from the high-performance Dutch carbon wheel brand Scope. The Scope Artech 6 aero wheelset comes with Pirelli P-Zero SLR TLR tyres, 65 mm rim height and and its unique scaly surface weighing 1244 grams. The Scope Artech 4 comes with Continental GP5000 TT tyres, a 45 mm rim height and the same aeroascales surface (set weight 1120 g) to make for a high-performance all-round wheelset.

The Aeroad’s default Classic drops can be upgraded to Race drops, a successor to the Canyon’s Aero drops, with a slightly reduced flare angle and increased drop for better handling in sprints and downhill sections, or to Compact drops with a focus on ergonomic handling and shorter effective reach (-10 mm compared to Classic drops).

Additionally, MyCanyon configuration options are now also possible for customers choosing Canyon's Aeroad CF SLX including the choice of crank length, stem length, drop options & cassette options.

Availability

New Aeroad CFR and Aeroad CFR LTD bikes are available from Thursday 25 June, exclusively from Canyon.com or the Canyon App where MyCanyon CFR customisation options can be explored, including five new colour options (Prima: Nero, Alba, and Iride; Fabrio: Cosmic Ash; Mano: Orion).

2. Wind tunnel testing criteria:

*Tour Magazine conducts independent wind tunnel tests at the GST wind tunnel in Immenstaad, Germany, to measure the aerodynamic efficiency of road bikes at a steady 45 km/h airflow. Each bike is mounted with a dummy featuring moving legs, and laser alignment ensures consistent positioning. The tests cover a yaw range from −20° to +20°, simulating crosswinds. Wattage values indicate the power required to overcome aerodynamic drag, with lower numbers representing faster, more efficient bike.

The bike specification included SRAM Red AXS 1x13-speed drivetrain, AXS E1 hydraulic brakes, 10-46T cassette, DT Swiss ARC 1100 Dicut db 65 mm rims, Continential Aero 111 26mm and GP 5000 28mm tyres, Canyon CP0053 RACE Bar cockpit, Canyon SP0105 seat post, Selle Italia SLR Boost 3D carbonio 130 mm saddle.
