Kat Matthews (GB), Caroline Pohle (DE), Marjolaine Pierré (FR), Rico Bogen (DE), Sam Holness (GB) and Willy Hirsch (DE) all on the start line in Marbella.
Wednesday 5th November 2025: This coming weekend (November 8-9) the 2025 Ironman 70.3 World Championships take place in Marbella, Spain giving the Canyon Speedmax the chance to add another two World Championship titles to its burgeoning trophy cabinet.
Awaiting the athletes in Marbella will be a 1.9 km ocean swim, a 90.1 km hilly and exposed bike ride, a 21.1 km beach-front run, and several hours of fast and furious racing.
With six Canyon athletes taking part, not only do they have the chance to be crowned the 70.3 World Champion, but they can also claim crucial points in the overall Ironman Pro Series standings, especially Kat Matthews who currently has a slender lead at the top of the women’s leaderboard.
British athlete Kat Matthews knows a thing or two about the podium at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. She has finished second on the last two occasions, (2023 in Lahti, Finland, 2024 in Taupō, New Zealand) so will be hoping to go one better in 2025.
Kat is currently leading the Pro Series standings so a victory in Marbella would give her both the World Championship title and the chance of reclaiming the Pro Series title too. Two years of unmatched consistency!
Also representing Canyon in Marbella will be Caro Pohle (DE, below left), who placed second in both Ironman 70.3 Jönköping and Kraichgau this year, and Marjolaine Pierré (FRA, below right), winner of this year’s Ironman 70.3 Aix-en-Provence.
The men’s race is wide open with a stacked field that will be ultimately defined by the run, but one that can certainly be lost wasting energy on the bike. Luckily the Canyon Speedmax CFR has a reputation for just the opposite, combining aerodynamic efficiency, stability and control. The integrated nutrition and hydration systems on the Speedmax lets athletes refuel without breaking their aero position. Every detail is designed to save watts and maximize speed.
Lining up for Canyon in the men’s race is Rico Bogen (DE, below), who won the Ironman 70.3 World Championship title in Lahti (2023) and the San Francisco round of the T100 series earlier this year, plus two-time Ironman 70.3 winner Willy Hirsch (DE).
Also representing Canyon is age-group racer and Canyon ambassador Sam Holness (GB, below), who is on a mission to raise awareness of competing in high-level sports with autism.
All Canyon triathletes in Marbella will be racing on the Speedmax, a bike with ten half- and long-distance World Championship titles in the past 10 years. Will it secure another two in Marbella? We’ll find out this weekend…
