- Canyon’s sleek, flat-bar, aluminium or carbon Roadlite urban bikes now come with improved price/performance and compatibility for fenders and racks
- The range starts with the Roadlite 7, coming in at the incredible value of € 999
Embargoed until Thursday 6th March 2025, 11:00 CET: Every bike has its particular appeal - there's bikes for shredding, bikes for winning, bikes for exploring, bikes that will power you, bikes with all the bells and whistles - but if there's one bike that can appeal to everyone it's the humble utilitarian bike. You know the type: two wheels, two triangles, no frills. But what if it took a dash of design here, and a lick of paint there, added a few adaptability options and suddenly became a sleek and attractive ride? That's exactly what Canyon set out to do with the Roadlite, its minimalist, flat-bar, get-around-town bike.
The Roadlite is an attractive, practical and lightweight bike with swift, urban utility at its heart - running errands, grabbing groceries, dashing to the train station or popping in on friends - all the while being easy on the pocket and stylish to boot. It’s made for those with dynamic lifestyles, for riders who are constantly popping here, there and everywhere, and want to do so with a modern-looking, nimble bike.
Far from being confined to the streets though, this crafty urban navigator doesn’t mind a detour. With its Schwalbe G-One Allround tubeless-ready 40 mm tyres, and their wide and even tread pattern, you’ll roll efficiently on the tarmac and still have grip for taking dirt roads, easy trails or any other adventurous route you might find in the city.
Although the Roadlite range is a friend of affordability, that doesn't mean it skimps on quality. Even with the entry-level aluminium framed Roadlite 7 model, coming in at the incredible value of € 999, 12-speed gearing is offered by Shimano DEORE, and carbon forks provide an element of absorption from the buzz of the road.
The range tops out with the carbon framed Roadlite CF 9 at € 1,999, again featuring 12-speed gearing, this time from Shimano's XT range, plus a carbon fork, one-piece 630 mm handlebar and stem with SPC+ smartphone interface, and a 30.9 mm carbon seatpost. The complete bike weighs in at a svelte 9,5 kg.
To tackle any terrain, all Roadlite models come with a large range 10-51T cassette in the rear to provide ample gearing for steep climbs, and a small enough gear to avoid spinning out too quickly on the hills, matched with a single 44T chainring at the front, removing the faff of front shifting.
Talking of hills, stopping power comes courtesy of Shimano’s MT200 hydraulic 2-piston disc brakes, complete with Shimano’s IceTech disc rotors featuring cooling fins to reduce heat build-up if you’re inclined to drag your brakes as you manoeuvre around the city.
All models in the range also come with Ergon’s GA3 ergonomic and sporty grips and Selle Royal saddles with comfort-enhancing channels.
With its minimalist positioning, that doesn’t mean the Roadlite can’t be personalised to your riding style. The Roadlite is compatible with Canyon’s Sport Rack and Fender set. The rack can take a maximum load of 15 kg, which is more than enough for the daily commute. Removable studs on the rack allow alternative mounting systems (e.g. QL2.1) to be used, providing compatibility with many types of existing pannier bags. The rear bolt-through axle is compatible with trailers, meaning you can also haul up to 50 kg if you need to. The Roadlite also features interfaces for three bottle cages and a kickstand giving you plenty of options to adapt your bike to your riding style.
Canyon’s two Roadlite AL 7 and AL 8 models and the CF 9 model are available in two colours and three sizes, from Thursday 6th March, exclusively through canyon.com or through the Canyon App where you can also find bike service information, compatible spare parts, and exploded drawings of the bike.
2. Trailer compatibility: The Roadlite features a GP0420 M10x1 trailer interface axle approved for pulling trailers of up to 50 kg. This is compatible axle nuts for almost every low trailbar trailer on the market including Croozer, Thule, Burley, Qeridoo, Hamax and Weber.
