WORLD CHAMPIONS, OLYMPIC MEDALS AND A GRAND TOUR VICTORY: A SEASON OF STAND-OUT PERFORMANCES FROM CANYON ATHLETES

Mathieu Van der Poel, Jasper Philipsen, Kasia Niewiadoma, Chloé Dygert, Puck Pieterse, Laura Phillip and Patrick Lange take top honours for Canyon in 2024, plus hope for the future with U23 and Junior world champions.

2024 will go down in the Canyon history books as one of its most successful years on record. With 17 UCI World Champions, 2 Ironman World Champions, a Grand Tour victory and Olympic gold, plus over 180 professional victories across road, time trial, track, gravel, cross-country, enduro and downhill races, Canyon has consistently been supporting its athletes to podium-topping places this season.

Here’s Canyon’s pick of the season:

Arguably the defining moment of the year came with Kasia Niewiadoma’s overall victory at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. One of the most dramatic Tour victories ever will cement Kasia’s place as a Canyon legend and also puts another Grand Tour feather in the cap for the Aeroad CFR.

2024 was another stellar year for Mathieu van der Poel with double rainbow bands thanks to Cyclocross and Gravel World Champs titles on the Inflite CFR and the Gravel CFR respectively, plus Classics wins at Paris-Roubaix and Flanders on the Aeroad CFR. Van der Poel was again a triple threat in 2024.

On the track, Chloé Dygert, Jennifer Valente, Lily Williams, and Kristen Faulkner of Team USA took home Olympic Gold in the Women’s Team Pursuit, and Tobias Aagaard Hansen, Carl-Frederik Bevort, Niklas Larsen, and Frederik Rodenberg Madsen of Team Denmark won World Championship titles in Team Pursuit, Madison, Points and Elimination race, proving the aero excellence of the Speedmax Track CFR.

In the world of triathlon, Laura Philipp delivered a defining performance to win the Women’s Ironman World Championship in Nice. At the Men’s Ironman World Championships in Kona, Patrick Lange claimed his third world title – and a new course record – overhauling the 9-minute gap to fellow Canyon athlete Sam Laidlow. Laidlow also left jaws dropping by being the first man to complete the 112-mile ride in under four hours, finishing in 3:57:22 on the Speedmax CFR.

Puck Pieterse emerged as a rising star, winning stage 4 and the Youth Classification at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, plus the U23 Road Race world championship title. Away from the tarmac she also took home the Mountain Bike World Champion title on the Lux World Cup CFR, and won the Zonhoven round of the cyclocross World Cup underscoring her multi-discipline talent.

A pro sports philosophy

Canyon’s long history of investing in pro sports is paying dividends for its reputation as brand athletes can rely on to win races. Since the company’s origin in 2002, pro sports has been an integral part of its business and it’s largely for two main reasons: firstly, pro sports provides a rich source of information for Canyon engineers to feed into its research and development department. And secondly, because Canyon places huge value in the inspiration athletes give us to ride our own bikes.

“Through investing in pro sports, we can continue to grow the sport and inspire young riders and new riders, as well as older, more established riders to emulate their heroes,” said Canyon’s Pro Sports Director Andreas Walzer. “2024 has been an excellent year with so many incredible performances and inspiring stories. It’s hard to pick our favourites but of course, some stand out more than others.”

“2024 will go down in the history books as a year in which our established stars of the sport once again proved why they’re the best in the world. We’re incredibly proud to work in partnership with some of the best riders of their generation. The valuable insights they give us allow Canyon to create new innovations that can push the boundaries of what’s possible in professional cycling, some of which lead directly to new bikes you’ll see in 2025.”
