From the Tour de France to the Paris Olympics and the MTB World Championships, Canyon athletes secured 13 high profile wins this summer, a testament to innovation and precision engineering.
Canyon Bicycles is celebrating a triumphant summer of sporting highlights, marked by extraordinary achievements across cycling’s most prestigious races.
From the legendary climbs of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift to electrifying laps on track at the Paris Olympics, thrilling sprints at the Tour de France, or the thrills and spills of the XC World Championships, Canyon athletes have truly left their mark on some of the biggest races this summer.
What’s more remarkable is that these 13 victories have been achieved by seven world class athletes who’ve demonstrated the close synergy between the rider, their bike and their support team that it takes to win at the highest level.
Creating that synergy with riders is a key priority for Canyon: engrained in the brand’s DNA is the daily desire to progress innovation and expertise, and collaboration with the leading experts of the industry to strive for the next level. And nowhere is that synergy more distilled than in the company’s CFR line, which epitomizes Canyon’s pledge to provide the highest possible level of performance.
Whether conquering grueling climbs or setting blistering paces, Canyon’s CFR bikes have once again this season provided its athletes with the ultimate competitive edge, propelling them to podiums and securing medals across the board.
Across the Tour de France, Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, and the Olympics, Canyon was one of the most winning bike brands with riders like Jasper Philipsen, Hayden Wilde, Chloe Dygert and Kasia Niewiadoma all excelling. Not to mention Puck Pieterse securing a victory in the Women’s MTB (XC) World Championships.
CANYON//SRAM Racing's Kasia Niewiadoma (PL) delivered a breathtaking victory on the iconic Alpe d’Huez, clinching the closest Yellow Jersey win in both Men’s and Women’s Tour de France history. Crossing the finish line with just four seconds to spare, she secured the General Classification in a nail-biting finale that will be remembered for years to come.
Fenix-Deceuninck’s Puck Pieterse (NL) burst onto the women’s road cycling scene with only ten days of tarmac racing under her belt. Her stunning victory on Stage 4 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift marked her as a rising star and claiming the Youth Classification is a powerful indication of her future dominance. And her winning streak shows no signs of stopping. This past Sunday (September 1, 2024) Puck secured the World Champion title with a Gold Medal in the Cross-Country MTB World Championships, giving her an MTB rainbow jersey for 2025.
Last year’s Tour de France green jersey winner Alpecin-Deceuninck’s Jasper Philipsen (BE) aimed to defend that title in the 2024 Tour de France. Even though he just came short in the Points Classification, his perseverance and willpower enabled him to turn the race around after a tough start. He kept believing, found his way into the race and came out of it with three stage wins.
CANYON//SRAM’s Chloé Dygert (US) shone at the 2024 Paris Olympics, capturing two medals for Team USA. First, she claimed bronze in a rain-soaked Women’s Individual Time Trial. Then, she carried that momentum into the velodrome, where she teamed up with fellow Team USA athletes Jennifer Valente, Lily Williams, and Kristen Faulkner to strike gold in the Women’s Team Pursuit.
In the Paris 2024 Men’s Individual Triathlon, Hayden Wilde (NZ) delivered a remarkable performance to secure the silver medal. Emerging from the water with a one-minute deficit, he powered through the gap with a relentless bike ride. On the final 5 kilometers of the run, Wilde surged ahead, only to be caught in the closing meters. Despite the narrow miss for gold, his tenacity earned him a well-deserved silver medal in a thrilling race.
In another Triathlon discipline, the Mixed Relay event, Tim Hellwig (DE) kicked off with a strong start, positioning Germany in second place as Leg 2 began. Teammate Lisa Tertsch then powered Germany into the lead by the halfway mark, handing off to Lasse Lührs who drove forward in a tight two-man group. With just seconds separating them from Team Great Britain, it was Laura Lindemann who delivered the final burst of speed, outsprinting her rivals to secure the gold medal for Team Germany.
The track cycling disciplines brought two more medals to Canyon’s tally, with Fabio van den Bossche securing bronze in the Men’s Omnium event. Team Denmark’s Niklas Larsen and Michael Mørkøv also delivered a strong performance, earing third place in the Men’s Madison discipline.
This already adds to the excitement building for what Canyon athletes hope to accomplish in the upcoming Road, Gravel and Track Cycling championships later this year - more on that below.
Canyon takes immense pride in being the sponsor and partner of these extraordinary athletes, whose success spans a wide range of disciplines. At the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift and the Tour de France, Kasia Niewiadoma, Puck Pieterse, and Jasper Philipsen were all propelled to victory by the 2024 Canyon Aeroad CFR, a bike that provided the winning margin with its cutting-edge design and unmatched aerodynamics.
At the Paris Olympics, Canyon athletes showcased the full potential of Canyon’s engineering excellence. Riding bikes with special MACH874 colorways personalized for each athlete, they proudly represented their nations while delivering unforgettable performances on both road and track. The Speedmax CFR Track excelled with three wins, while the new Canyon Aeroad CFR (pictured below) claimed two victories in the triathlon, and the Speedmax CFR TT added another medal to the tally in the time trial. With the first of the upcoming World Championships complete, Canyon recorded another victory, this time for the Lux World Cup CFR in Cross country (XCO).
These bikes not only exemplify Canyon’s commitment to innovation across the board but also played a crucial role in helping these athletes turn their dreams into reality.
The Aeroad CFR embodies Canyon’s dominance through its unmatched speed and superior durability, featuring a refined carbon layup that reinforces the frame in critical areas to enhance handling responsiveness. At just over 7 kg, it strikes the perfect balance between lightweight build, aerodynamic efficiency, and agility, making it the ultimate choice for top-tier performance and exceptional reliability. Additionally, the innovative PACE Bar cockpit system offers quick, customizable adjustments between Classic and Aero Drops, providing riders with added versatility.
In the realm of pure speed, the Speedmax CFR TT and Speedmax CFR Track set new standards. Perfected for the most aero position, the Speedmax CFR TT has proven its dominance in time trials and triathlons, while the Speedmax CFR Track, built on the same foundation, has been meticulously refined for all track cycling disciplines, making it the fastest Canyon bike ever created.
Leaving the smooth surfaces behind and stepping onto the trails, the Lux World Cup CFR is engineered with one objective in mind: dominating mountain bike races. As one of the lightest full-suspension MTB frames available, it makes climbing feel like flying and allows riders to let it rip on descents, full of confidence and control.
