ULTIMATE CF SLX LTD – ARTIST EDITION 2021: DESIGN BY ERIK SPIEKERMANN

KOBLENZ, 27 MAY 2021 | EMBARGO UNTIL TUESDAY, 1 JUNE (11 AM CEST/9AM UTC) – The combination of art and cycling in the form of special frame designs and artwork has always been deeply fascinating. To celebrate this unique fascination, Canyon has created the Ultimate Artist Edition. After releasing a special edition designed by photographer Tino Pohlmann at the end of 2020, Canyon now release the Ultimate Artist Edition 2021. A world-class frame with stunning artwork by designer Erik Spiekermann: the Ultimate CF SLX 8 Disc LTD. This is the second in a series of bikes celebrating artists who are passionate about cycling.

Canyon and Erik Spiekermann share a deep and long-lasting connection to cycling. They also share a common mindset and great passion for design and aesthetics. At only 13 years of age, Spiekermann painted the spokes of his first road bike bronze and the frame green. Today, he owns more than ten bikes at several homes around the world, including custom builds and rare collectible gems. The Erik Spiekermann Edition of the Ultimate CF SLX 8 Disc LTD is limited to 50 bikes. It pays homage to the artist’s oeuvre and his iconic aesthetics. Each frame is hand-signed by Erik Spiekermann.

The Ultimate LTD – Design by Erik Spiekermann – encapsulates a story that connects the design of the bike with the artist’s personal touch. As a typographer, Spiekermann knows that graphic design always comes down to measuring: “All the measurements are connected. If I change one parameter, I have to rethink all the other ones. The right measurements also determine how good a bike feels and rides. Mapping all that out as a visual element on the Ultimate was a great way to complement the clear and understated lines of the frame.” Together with Canyon graphic designer Lukas Beck, Spiekermann created the artwork by putting technical details of the bike which riders are not typically aware of onto the frame, directly incorporating functional aspects of the bike part into the artwork. The artwork also extends to the wheels, so that they form one harmonious design together with the frame.

The Ultimate CF SLX frame is made complete by the SRAM Force eTap AXS groupset, which combines innovative wireless 12-speed shifting with modern disc brakes – all controlled from Canyon’s own CP10 carbon cockpit. The Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels are a perfect match for the look of this limited model, and together with the Continental GP 5000 tyres, they offer top-level performance at a low weight.

A limited run of 50 Ultimate CF SLX 8 Disc bikes in this fascinating design will be available exclusively on canyon.com from Tuesday, 1 June 2021. The bike costs €5,999* and includes a special brochure with detailed information on the story behind its extraordinary design.
