Tuesday 14th October 2025: The 2025 edition of Red Bull Rampage may be the 19th time that the world’s best male freeriders have descended on Utah desert to throw themselves down the spectacular sandstone cliff faces, but this year is, unbelievably, only the second time that the world’s best female freeriders have been invited to take part.

2024 was the first time women were invited to put their bodies and careers on the line as they sought to impress judges with their traverses, tricks and technical riding skills. Now in 2025, Canyon athlete Haz Burbidge-Smith has the chance to write her name into the history books as she’ll soon be carving out lines and shaping jumps with her crew, then showcasing her incredible skills in front of the television cameras and a global audience of millions.

Harriet Burbidge-Smith: “I grew up without knowing how to get into Freeride. I just knew I liked having fun on bigger jumps and bigger tricks. Having a professional career was never a pathway for me until recent years. This Rampage invitation is mega and I’m determined to use this opportunity to inspire everyone out there hitting jumps and wondering where it can take them.”

Haznation shreds the Canyon Torque at the world’s biggest freeride stage

Haz’s horse for this Rampage course is a custom Canyon Torque AL. It’s a burly beast of a bike specifically made for absorbing all manner of impacts, soaking up big-send hits, drops and aggressive downhill lines thanks to its progressive geometry and 200 mm of Rock Shox front suspension. With the focus being more on downhill tricks, style and steeze, there’s no need for the weight saving that a carbon frame brings, so Haz’s Torque will be an ally in aluminium. She’ll complete the build with Rock Shox shock, SRAM drivetrain and brakes, Industry 9 wheels (27,5”) shod with Kenda Pinner tyres and Canyon’s gravity-focused G5 cockpit, seatpost, saddle and pedals.

But quite possibly the most eye-catching thing about Haznation’s shredding rig is the artwork. Inspired by the cliffs of Virgin, Utah, Haz’s Torque channels the iconic desert landscape. Sandstone layers appear to wrap the frame, cut through by a turquoise river line that echoes Haz’s flow. Haznation’s spiral motif is subtly woven into the strata, making the bike both a canvas of the landscape and a reflection of her identity.

“A Rampage invitation is more than just a start line, it’s a statement to the world that you belong among the boldest, bravest, and inspiring freeriders out there. For Haz, we wanted a bike that truly lives up to that spirit. The build kit is ready for everything the desert can throw at her, but it’s the custom frame artwork that gives this Torque its soul. It’s a symbol of courage, creativity, and the pure joy of riding - everything we wish Haz for her Rampage journey,” said Canyon’s Global MTB Brand Manager Kerstin Kaufmann.

3. Canyon’s history at Rampage

  • Making Canyon history, Thomas Genon took part in Rampage 2013 aboard a Canyon Torque DHX, proving that Canyon could be a contender on freeride’s biggest stage.
  • Darren Berrecloth ("The Claw") showcased the Canyon Sender at Red Bull Rampage in 2016, reinforcing the Sender's technical capabilities and relevance in aggressive freeride terrain.
  • In 2023 Thomas Genon brought Canyon back to Rampage aboard a Torque AL 27.5 with single-crown fork, showing continued trust in Canyon’s platform in elite freeride competition.
  • In 2025 Haz’s entry marks a new chapter: representing not only freeride’s rawest challenges, but also the progression of women in the sport.

4. How Does Rampage Work?

Riders arrive on site ~4-5 days before the main competition to scout potential lines down the mountain terrain. They walk terrain, inspect ridgelines, jumps, natural feature opportunities, assessing risk, flow, and what fits their style. Then begins Dig Days: with a two-person dig crew, riders shape takeoffs, landings, and feature transitions using hand tools—shovels, picks, sandbags.

No heavy machinery/power tools are allowed for environmental and safety reasons. After building, there are practice / test runs: riders ride their lines, refine speed zones, tweak jumps or landings, and make final safety adjustments. Sometimes last-minute shaping continues up to the competition as riders decide on the tricky trade-off between the ambition of their tricks versus making a safe and clean run.
