The aerodynamic credentials of the Canyon Aeroad CFR are once again proven after victory at the highest level of racing.
Less than 50 days after Jasper Philipsen's high-speed Tour de France crash on stage 3, which left the Belgian sprinter with a fractured collarbone and broken rib, he is back to winning ways with victory at stage 1 of the 2025 Vuelta a España.
Philipsen, who races for Alpecin-Deceuninck, beat a host of the world's top sprinters to the line at the finish in Novara, Italy, to claim his second Grand Tour stage victory for 2025 and his fourth victory of the season.
With success on stage 1 came leadership for Philipsen in both the General Classification competition and the Points classification. As a result, he donned the red leaders jersey for the Vuelta's second stage and, waiting for him at the team bus was a matching red Canyon Aeroad CFR.
Speaking to La Vuelta after stage 1, Philipsen said: "Winning is always a nice feeling and especially when there’s a reward like the red jersey. We managed to do our lead-out how we wanted to. The team was very strong with Jonas [Rickaert] and Edward [Planckaert]. In the final kilometre, they executed the plan perfectly. I only had to start sprinting with 175 metres and I’m really happy that it works out for us."
"After my crash in the Tour, I was really disappointed to be out. We had worked really hard for it, it was a major goal. After a setback, you have to find new goals. This was a nice one and I knew we had one chance. There aren’t many opportunities for a sprinter like me in La Vuelta. It will be tough. I had some bad luck this season but also some very nice victories, like at the Tour and this one."
"This jersey motivated me the last few weeks and it’s always great when you work towards a goal and then when you succeed. It doesn’t always happen. I’m really gonna enjoy the day. It will only be one day, as tomorrow [Stage 2] is too hard for me but I will enjoy every moment."
The complete bike takes Canyon's 995g Aeroad CFR frame - wind-tunnel proven to be one of the fastest in the pro peloton- and adds Canyon's aero seatpost and width-adjustable aero cockpit, Selle Royal saddle, Shimano Dura-Ace C60 wheels and drivetrain, and Pirelli P Zero tyres.
Known as one of the fastest, most aerodynamic bikes in the pro peloton, Philipsen picked up where Mathieu van der Poel and Kaden Groves left off in the Tour de France to record the Aeroad CFR's fifth Grand Tour victory of the year.
With a hilly finish on stage 2, Jasper was resigned to losing the leader's jersey, but he remains the leader of the points classification, switching to a green jersey and a green bike for stage 3. He'll be looking to secure his hold on the Points Classification jersey during the intermediate sprints in the upcoming mountain stages and team time trials, before his next true test at stage 8's sprint finish in Zaragoza.
