CANYON AEROAD CFR EXCELS AT TOUR DE FRANCE 2025 WITH STAGE WINS, GREEN AND YELLOW JERSEYS, AND EPIC BREAKAWAYS
With so many competitions and individual objectives at the Tour de France it can be quite hard to define what success looks like, but in anybody's book this year's race was hugely successful for Canyon and its Aeroad CFR race bike.
The opening weekend set the tone, with Jasper Philipsen and Mathieu van der Poel taking back-to-back wins for Alpecin-Deceuninck on stages 1 and 2. Jasper claimed the first yellow jersey of the Tour and handed it off to Mathieu the next day, while slipping into green himself. Both riders received customised yellow and green edition Aeroad CFR bikes, matching visual flair to their on-road firepower.
Although Jasper’s Tour ended early after a crash on stage 3, Mathieu kept the charge alive: defending the maillot jaune until stage 5, reclaiming it by just one second on stage 6 and proudly wearing it again on stage 7.
Through it all, the Aeroad CFR's credentials were on full display, keeping Canyon at the front of the race. Nowhere was that more evident than stage 9, where the Aeroad CFR really made a statement. On a stage seemingly made for sprinters, Mathieu and his teammate Jonas Rickaert launched a two-man breakaway from kilometre zero, pushing the pace for more than 170km. The result: the second-fastest stage in Tour de France history, with an average speed of over 50kph. Mathieu’s final solo move with 6km to go – caught just 800m from the line – once again underlined the Aeroad CFR’s position as the fastest bike in the pro peloton.
And on stage 11, the mercurial Dutchman very nearly did it again, attacking from a world-class breakaway on the Côte de Pech David in pursuit of two riders up the road, finishing agonisingly close behind them.
Mathieu was one of the main animators of the race before illness forced him to abandon after the second rest day. But it wasn't the last action for Alpecin-Deceuninck as stage 20 saw sprinter Kaden Groves claim a stunning solo victory after attack from a 13-man breakaway to solo the remaining 17 km to the line.
In total, three stage wins for Philipsen, van der Poel and Groves, five days in yellow in total, a hard-fought combativity award, a major contribution to the second-fastest Tour stage ever, and a global showcase for Canyon's customised frame designs has to go down as a hugely successful Tour for Canyon.
And now with the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift underway, we’re excited to watch Canyon’s fast femmes continue the charge – bringing the same energy, precision and speed to the road.
