Victories for Laura Philipp at Ironman Nice World Champs, Antonia Niedermaier in the U23 Individual Time Trial World Champs, and Tiffany Cromwell at Sea Otter's UCI Gravel World Series round
Koblenz, Germany, Monday 23rd September: From the French Riviera to the Swiss Alps and the rugged trails of Girona, Canyon’s female athletes were unstoppable last weekend, capturing six podium finishes and two prestigious World Championship titles.
On Sunday 22nd September, Laura Philipp (GER) delivered a dominant performance at the Ironman World Championships in Nice, France, claiming gold with a time of 8 hours, 45 minutes, and 15 seconds. Despite exiting the water four minutes behind the leader, Laura turned the tables during the bike leg thanks to a new secret weapon.
Laura's Speedmax CFR featured a newly developed full-carbon monocoque cockpit design which gave her an optimum balance of aerodynamic positioning, weight and on-the-bike comfort, allowing her to conserve energy for a final running leg that would bring her to the finish line with an 8-minute gap over the second placed athlete.
Speaking about the new cockpit design, Canyon's lead R&D engineer Lukas Schuchnigg: “One of the reasons we work with elite athletes and invest heavily in performance is to push the boundaries of cutting-edge bike design. Laura's Speedmax CFR is indicative of everything we are working towards in triathlon, focusing on highest standards of design and quality to elevate bike performance and athlete achievement to the next level.”
Meanwhile, Canyon bikes were also successful in Zurich, Switzerland, where CANYON//SRAM Racing’s Antonia Niedermaier (GER) defended her U23 Individual Time Trial (ITT) World Champion title aboard the Speedmax CFR TT, while Julie de Wilde (BE) of Fenix-Deceuninck grabbed third place in the same category. In the Elite Women’s ITT, CANYON//SRAM Racing’s Chloé Dygert claimed third place, rounding off a successful day on the tarmac.
The weekend's victories were not only limited to the road. On Saturday, September 21, CANYON//SRAM Racing's Tiffany Cromwell (AUS) dominated the UCI Gravel World Series Race in Girona, Spain.
Racing on her Grail CFR, Cromwell claimed first place in a thrilling contest at Sea Otter Europe, further showcasing Canyon’s versatility and engineering prowess across disciplines.
