Embargoed until Thursday 10 October 2024 (11:00 CEST): Following on from the introduction earlier this year of their highly-praised CFR Tempr road and off-road shoes, Canyon is now introducing their Scampr adventure shoe which features design concepts and performance benefits from partners such as BOA®, Solestar® and Vibram® to provide the perfect platform for your wildest adventure rides and off-grid excursions.
Unlike Canyon’s Tempr CFR models, which are positioned as Canyon Factory Racing shoes, their Scampr shoes are more of a rounded proposition, trading a few grams of weight for a greater emphasis on comfort and walkability, whether on two wheels or two feet.
Well-suited to touring, gravel, cross-country and trail rides, the Scampr adventure shoes tread the line between providing a comfortable all-day contact point with your bike, and a shoe that allows you to navigate rough, uneven and technical terrain with a stable yet walkable sole no matter where or how far off the map you’re riding and walking.
Canyon once again employed the trusted expertise of industry veterans Carl Bird and Eric Horton of FORM8ION to bring their knowledge to the Scampr shoe development process. Their input, together with Canyon’s own in-house development team, brought the perfect combination of technology from BOA®, Solestar® and Vibram® and other design features to create a high-level shoe for all manner of adventures.
With the goal to create the ultimate go-anywhere do-anything shoe for every adventurer, the development team brought in concepts such as BOA’s PerformFit™ Wrap to control the instep and lock-in the heel, Canyon’s PureFit360™ foot-form and shoe last fit, Solestar’s contoured inners for optimised underfoot support and stability, and Vibram’s Megagrip sole for exceptional traction.
BOA’s PerformFit™ Wrap largely dictates how the shoe is worn and how it performs. The PerformFit™ Wrap circles the ankle and wraps from the arch to control the foot and enhance power transfer. The floating strap wraps from under the sole to evenly disperse pressure and eliminate discomfort from the closure system.
The BOA PerformFit™ Wrap encircles the heel and arch of the foot, controling the instep, and locking the heel in place to eliminate unnecessary foot movements within the shoe and provide freedom from pressure points across the arch of the foot.
To fasten the shoe, BOA®’s Li2 dial offers a multi-directional, efficient, fine-tuned fit that’s both durable and replaceable, enabling easy, intuitive tightening and loosening, along with a quick release mechanism. Plus customers needn’t worry about damage because BOA Fit System dials and laces have a BOA Lifetime Guarantee*, and they’re simple to replace at home should you happen to cause some damage.
Comfort is enhanced further with a bootie-like Stretch Tongue providing a comfortable fit from the get-go, with the adaptable material allowing room to fit a variety of foot shapes. Further into the shoe comes a breathable mesh for optimised cooling and moisture transfer to keep feet dry and reduce overheating.
Underfoot Canyon’s SCAMPR shoe uses Solestar’s contoured liners which are integrated into the arch and insole to provide support and stability. Solestar’s philosophy is not to mimic the foot type but to return the foot to a neutral position where it can more efficiently transfer force and power without sacrificing comfort.
On the outsole Vibram’s proprietary Megagrip™ rubber compound provides next-level durability while delivering exceptional traction in both wet and dry conditions. The tread pattern uses an open tread spacing to shed mud, while a long channel guides the cleat into any compatible two-bolt pedal system.
In terms of design, Canyon’s Scampr adventure shoes are available in black and grey. Both models feature understated branding, with a subtle in-colour Canyon logo on the outsole. In size 42, a Scampr shoe weighs 390 g.
Canyon’s Scampr shoes are available in full EU sizes between 36-48, priced €159,95, or £159.95. They are exclusively available from the Canyon webshop or via the Canyon app where you can also find service instructions. Canyon footwear can also be seen at Canyon’s Factory Service locations in Europe where multiple sizes are available for fitting.
2. BOA Fit System dials and laces are guaranteed for the lifetime of the products on which they are integrated.
