ELITE BMX ATHLETE BRAD SIMMS ANNOUNCES MULTI-YEAR CANYON MTB SPONSORSHIP

KOBLENZ, 4 JUNE 2021 | EMBARGO UNTIL WEDNESDAY, 9 JUNE 2021, 5PM CEST/3PM UTC – That’s right, one of the most powerful BMX riders is now shredding on Canyon’s rowdy and nimble 27.5” Canyon Spectral.

Brad Simms has always taken pride in challenging himself in new ways and this year is no different. With over a decade of professional BMX riding under his belt, he will expand into a new discipline, mountain biking. Simms made the announcement Wednesday June 9th on social media in an Instagram post which featured a video-call with Fabio Wibmer, a world renowned trials and MTB professional. The two Canyon sponsored athletes discussed industry rumors then Brad shared his first Canyon MTB clip - drumming up excitement for what’s to come.

Brad was born in Waldorf, Maryland and has been riding BMX for over 15 years. As a professional athlete, Brad has traveled with his bike to over 100 countries and taught himself to ride everything which crossed his path. Along his travels, he has connected with fans and amassed a significant social media following through hard-charging and eye-popping bike content. Last year, Brad earned two of the sport’s most sought-after accolades - the 2020 NORA Cup BMX Rider of The Year and the 2020 Vital BMX Rider of The Year. He currently resides in Austin, Texas which he helped solidify as a hub for BMX riders in the United States.

Said the two-time X Games medalist Brad Simms: “‘I have a ton of respect for the mountain bike community - especially guys like Fabio [Wibmer] and Thomas Genon, Jack Moir, Braydon Bringhurst, and women like Tahnée Seagrave. Each year they seem to find a way to take things up another notch. You can’t help but be inspired.” For Brad, the mountain bike will be a medium for him to explore more domestically and spark more diversity in outdoor and action sports communities. As for BMX, Brad will continue riding at the highest level but he is excited to begin this new chapter of his career. As he describes, “My approach is humble, but I am looking forward to progressing quickly, having tons of fun, and finding out where these trails take me.”

Regardless of what bike you ride, or which industry you identify with, I think we all can agree that we’re looking forward to watching Brad emerge as a multi-discipline bike athlete.
